HANDMADE KOGATANA by ISHIDO TERUHIDE

207mm x 24mm

RARE KIRIDASHI KOGATANA BY ISHIDO TERUHIDE. This is a large size kogatana by Hideo-san that
I purchased from his son Yoshitaka-san. It is 207mm long by 24mm wide and is made of Swedish Blue
Steel and komanji antique bridge iron. This blade comes in a fitted paulownia wood box that is marked
on the lid KOGATANA meaning this type of single bevel working knife, and on the end of the box is the
Ishido Hamono seal which reads ISHIDO KANNA SEI SAKUJO or Kanna Maker Ishido Teruhide. The
handle of the kogatana is marked in hand engraved kanji by Hideo himself ISHIDO TERUHIDE

The Swedish Blue Steel and Kamaji iron blade reads down the center of the handle in hand engraved kanji ISHIDO TERUHIDE SAKU or Made by Ishido Teruhide. The back is marked in the same manner and reads HYAKUREN or Hit One Hundred Times.

The paulownia wood box is marked on the lid KOGATANA or Small Knife, and the ends of the box are stamped with a red seal ISHIDO TERUHIDE KANNA SAI SAKUJO or Kanna Maker Ishido Teruhide.

The blade pictured was made by Ishido Hideo in the 1970s at the hamono factory in Oyama, Tochigi Prefecture.
