#1533 Shobudani (Shobu-Takayama mine} hard namido tomae. 212 x 75 x 30mm thick. (1163 grams). Tested as Mohs 5. This stone has a gray cast with a faint cloud of red along with a scattered micro pattern of non-toxic black goma sesame grains that do not affect the sharpening qualities of the stone in one way or another. Although one corner is missing, the stone will fit into a stone holder.

I tested this stone with 12 razors from Brian Brown, Tim Zowada Timahagane, Towa, Kikuhide, Hart Steel T/V, Henckels Inox, it was the carbon Henckels 415 and several Wade & Butchers that responded the best with perfect shaves. The same samples of tools will be likely. In Japan the old timers claim "hard steel/sort stones-soft steel/hard stones. Works here too.

A tested tomo nagura will be included.

  • All of my stones are sold with a money-back guarantee minus the return shipping if within 30 days of the sale and returned in their original state. Please do not lacquer the stone if you have any intention of returning it.

I encourage sealing the sides of all sedimentary stones, especially if there a inclusions, cracks, or fissures and or if the stone is used in an active workshop where the stone is constantly wet. For casual use, sealing, especially all four sides, and preferably the back with one of either a marine type of spar varnish, a synthetic lacquer, urushi, or a cashew-derived lacquer is prudent.
