This Shinden stone has perfect confirmation; flattened top, 4 flattened sides with all 4 sharp perfectly shaped corners The top and corners have beveled sides. The kawa spectrum of minerals on the back is very graphic and although it fits into a stone holder the curve of the back makes the fit wobbly.  This can be adjusted by flattening the back as needed.

The color is a faint-hazy green, and the namazu is yellow especially when wet.

The overall pattern on the top surface is of a river or stream flowing from end to end.

A very dense stone it weighs 1375 grams and is 208x75x40mm thick. There are no inclusions, the namazu is softer than steel and will not scratch steel or wrought iron. All in all a superior grade of awasedo that will hone/sharpen a whole host of steels to shave-ready condition. A large tomonagura slurry stone is included.

  • All of my stones are sold with a money-back guarantee minus the return shipping if within 30 days of the sale and returned in their original state. Please do not lacquer the stone if you have any intention of returning it.

I encourage sealing the sides of all sedimentary stones, especially if there a inclusions, cracks, or fissures and or if the stone is used in an active workshop where the stone is constantly wet. For casual use, sealing, especially all four sides, and preferably the back with one of either a marine type of spar varnish, a synthetic lacquer, urushi, or a cashew-derived lacquer is prudent.
