#642 Ozaki Suita Awasedo with Tomonagura slurry stone
 
Hefty Ozaki Suita Awasedo. This suita has the attributes of a stone used for commercial service, and it will hone equally well a wide range of steels. Although too large for kamisori (overkill), it fits modern blades such as straight razors, tools & knives. The hardness factor rates around 4 on the western scale. The kawa on the back in ocher colors at one corner does not sparkle. The back has been flattened, and it sits well on a table and "just OK" in a stone holder, so the price is a reflection of this odd-shaped back-end. The Ozaki mine was at the furthest end of the Toishiyama ridge and their mines were closed for good in the 1950s.
