This Ozaki awasedo is an asagi or dull yellow/green color awasedo. The stone is wrapped on the sides and back with mulberry paper called washi and adhered with McCloskey Man O'War spar varnish.
 
I prefer to call this size and shape awasedo as a hand-held stone, in part because one of the ends retains the raw, fresh from the mine, and the size fits into the palm.
 
It is a dense stone, and I find it suits carbon steels nicely, although it will handle stainless.
